Spring has Sprung… Or at least in decor it has!

After a brief hiatus… I’m back and ready for the warmer weather!

The easiest way to spruce up that outdoor patio furniture is with some new throw pillows! It just makes old furniture look new again. I replace mine every year because they take a beating the 6 months they’re outside. So I hate spending a lot on them, knowing they’ll just be tossed.

Target used to be my go to for these items. Until this year, I discovered something even better and cheaper! Walmart online has a great selection of outdoor accessories! Keyword online, I don’t dare go in the store. They never have what I want and the lines are horrendous! If you spend $50 you qualify for free shipping. I always manage to find something else I need online and if your not happy with your item you can just return it to the store.

The pillows start as cheap as $5! You really can’t beat that. Here are a few of my favs so you get an idea of what they have.

I didn’t stop with pillowswe we’re in need of a new grill too. I didn’t want to spend a million dollars because I don’t take the best care of it. Yes I put a cover on it and that’s where the maintenance stops. I have no interest in replacing parts. I’d rather replace the whole grill. This wonderful theory has always gotten me atleast 3 years minimum out of a grill. Which I’m happy with.

So I logged onto the Consumer Reports website and checked the reviews on propane grills. I was shocked to find that two of the top grills were from Walmart and under $200!

My previous grill was a four burner. It was great for the rare occasion we had a huge BBQ but a little large for every day use. I decided to downgrade to a 3 burner. The two grills I looked at do come in 4 burner as well, if that’s what your looking for.

The Backyard BBQ grill comes in 3 fun colors! It’s no frills but does have a side burner an automatic start and is only $128!

If you’re looking for something a little fancier the Better Homes and Garden Grill may be for you. It comes in 4 colors, hides the propane tank and has an automatic start as well. Quite stylish looking and only $168!

Don’t forget your Grill Cover if you don’t already have one. It does keep it looking pretty… We know that’s important at least to me it is;) They have many different sizes to choose from, depending on what grill you buy.

With a little cooperation from the weather  the smell of hamburgers and hot dogs sizzling on the grill is just around the corner!

Insane Kohl’s Coupon Deals!

I just got an insanely good deal on toddler clothing/gear at Kohl’s Online!

We are going away for spring break, so need some warm weather gear for my son.

I was able to apply 3 different promo codes, scoring my items for practically nothing! You DO need a Kohl’s Charge Card though to get the promotions.

Here’s the codes you’ll need…

BABYLOVE10 – will get you $10 off  your purchase of baby and toddler clothing, maternity and baby gear purchase of $30 or more.

These codes are good thru February 21.

Happy Shopping 😁

Can’t get enough of these wood boxes!

These wood boxes are becoming more useful than I ever imagined!

We used to have a glass bowl on the table next to our front door that we stored keys and sunglasses in. Honestly, it wasn’t the best system. Sunglasses in a bowl, combined with keys = Hot Mess! It looked awful and scratched the sunglass lenses.

I decided to take one of the wood boxes and rest it on its side. I then enlisted my hubbies help. He measured the boxes lid and marked the correct width and depth for it to be a shelf. He then cut along the lines and shimmied it back into place. This whole project took 20 minutes max!

We are only resting sunglasses on the shelf, so no wood glue was neccasary. I would recommend it though if you plan on having something heavier rest on there. I now successfully can separate sunglasses from keys and other junk you store by the door!

If you missed the previous blog post, check it out to see how we got these boxes looking so good!

It’s cold outside so I’m spending an endless amount of time in the house. Which has made me realize how much crap we have. Granted we use most of it, so I had to come up with an appealing way to hide it.

I found these wood wine boxes in my dads basement. Not all wine comes in cardboard lol. The good stuff comes in wood. Liquor stores often have no use for these cases once they empty the wine onto the shelves and throw them away! One mans trash is another mans treasure, all you have to do is ask!

I started by pealing the labels off. What I couldn’t get by hand I used a little sand paper on. This doesn’t have to be perfect, it’s a rustic look.

I then went into the garage and found some stain we had. I decided to go with Minwax Early American, pick whatever your preference.

Grabbed a pair of gloves, an old rag, a tarp, some cardboard to protect the floor and something to rest the boxes on.

It was time to get to work. I dipped the old rag in the stain and really coated it on.

I let dry for 2 days, as some spots were still tacky after one.

These are just a few that I stained. I plan on using them all over the house. In some areas to hide paperwork  and in others to conceal toys.

People, I still have all that junk but you’d never know now! I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.

If your unsuccessful at your local liquor store you could always buy some boxes at a craft store. I love these from Joanne’s but be sure to print up your coupon first. Almost always they have 40% off a single item. Which would make them $7.20!

Mise well get an early start on that spring cleaning!

“Anyway, like I was sayin’, shrimp is the fruit of the sea.” – Bubba

Here’s a super easy dinner that will only take you 2o minutes.

I’d say the size portion I make serves 3 people. If you want to double this use 3 cups of rice and the whole bag of frozen shrimp. Your sauce shouldn’t have to be altered.

Defrost your shrimp in the morning.

I buy this bag of shrimp in the frozen food section at ShopRite. I only buy wild caught shrimp from the US. They’re has been to much in the news about farm raised shrimp which mostly comes from overseas. I like to get the biggest shrimp I can. This is just a preference you can grab whatever you prefer. This is a 2lb bag and says they’re 16/20 shrimp per lb. So I remove 18 of them and put them in a colander in the sink to thaw out. I put the remaining shrimp in a freezer bag and put back in the freezer for next time.

Once your ready for dinner start by preparing your rice. Instructions should be on whatever rice you decide to use.

Mine are boil 2 cups water for 1 cup of rice. Once water is at a boil, add rice, reduce heat to simmer, cover, and let sit for 20 minutes.

I use organic long grain brown rice. I’m able to buy a large bag of it at Costco and it’s a healthy option.

Now that the rice is going it’s time to prepare your shrimp.

Preheat the oven to 375.

Peal off the outer shell and remove tails.

Than take a sharp knife and run it down the shrimps back, butter flying them. This is an easy way to remove all the gross stuff from the shrimp. It also makes your shrimp look a little prettier and larger after being cooked.

Throw all your shrimp in a pan.

Your going to add the ingredients right into the pan as well.

3 tbsp. Minced Garlic

1/2 cup Extra-virgin olive oil

4 tbsp. Lemon juice

2 tsp. Salt

1 tsp. Red pepper flakes

3 tbsp. Pareley flakes

1 cup Chopped tomatoes

1/4 cup White wine

I like to buy the 4 packs of white wine from the liquor store so I always have it on hand for cooking.

I usually use a large tomatoe but only had these cherry ones in the fridge. Whatever you have will work.

Mix it all together coating the shrimp with all ingredients.

Bake in the oven at 375 for 12 minutes.

About halfway through I give it a good mix with the spoon.

I serve mine in a large bowl over the the rice. I also like to add a little grated Parmesan to the top.

Bon Apetit!

We had a Traintastic Time🎈🚂🎉

Ok, I’ve finally recuperated from a long birthday weekend and am ready to give you all the details!

I love Streamers! You can get a 2 pack for $1 at the Dollar Tree and a little goes a long way. I decided to go with red and blue to keep with the Thomas theme and put them everywhere!

I covered every window in my living room.

Why stop there?!? I did the doors as well!

I love the bright colors it adds to the room. It definelty brings it all together and my son loved running through the fringe door.

I also picked up a pack of red and blue balloons at the dollar store. I had my husband blow them up and put them all over the floor. This was endless fun for the little ones. The cute chair cover was from Dollar Tree as well (the one in link is an Easter one but you should be able to find the Birthday one in store).

Lastly, for the decorations were the balloons. My son is still carrying them around the house. Save some money and get the solid color star balloons at the dollar store. Then buy just one themed ballon at your local party store. That one balloon is going to cost you 4 times the cost of the others. It’s definelty worth it though when you see how excited your little one is!

Now onto food…

I used some painters tape to make railroad tracks down the center of my island. Picked up a 3 pack of foil pans at the Dollar Tree and used extra cupcake frosting to attach whatever round cookies I had in the pantry to look like wheels. Filled the pans with fruit and put a Thomas toy we had laying around to lead the way. This made a great and easy centerpiece for the party.

Small cups filled with yogurt and Captain Crunch Berry mix made cute kid friendly yogurt parfaits.

I’ve used this three tier cake stand I picked up at Marshalls more times than I know. It’s perfect for entertaining! I prefer cupcakes for parties because it’s less work for me lol! No slicing just hand them out.  However I do make an extra large cupcake for the top, for the birthday boy. I decorated with Thomas themed toothpicks I picked up at Party City , the Birthday 2 candles from Dollar Tree and topped it with some trains I had around the house.

This Thomas bucket was $1.49 at Party City. I filled it with styrofoam and covered that with foil shred from the Dollar Tree. I picked up the skewers and Little Bites Muffins from the grocery store. All was left to do was skewer them and stick them in the bucket.

I bought a styrofoam cone from AC Moore. Originally $7.99 but printed a 40% off one item coupon from there website. I then covered it with cutouts of construction paper so it still looked good as munchkins were removed.

imageI then took 4 boxes of Entemans munchkins and skewered them with toothpicks one by one working my way around and up the tower. I learned as I went that it’s best not to stick them in to far and keep them on an upward angle. This is a picture of what it looked like after all the munchkins were removed but gives you an idea of how to insert them.

img_2172I finished it off with some of the Thomas toothpicks.  It was a real piece of art once complete!

I bought some Thomas themed plates and alternated with red ones from dollar tree  (I did this since the red are 20 for $1 and the Thomas are 8 for $2. Still get the Thomas look but for a cheaper price). I spray painted an old picture frame red (previous blog post) and put Wyatt’s train Christmas Card in it. Finished it off with a Thomas toy we had.

I kept with the breakfast theme for the favors. I got these 3 pack to go containers from Dollar Tree and printed up a saying to throw on them. I used a pair of craft scissors to cut it out. I also added a Thomas sticker to the back. I then filled each one with munchkins. Total cost was $8 for 6 favors and had plenty of Thomas stickers left over.

We also had a  few party games…

The train bean bag toss, you saw how we made on a previous post. My 8 year old niece even made homemade beanbags to throw through it.

imageDonuts on a string was a fun game. I’m not sure who liked it more the kids eating them(no hands allowed) or the adults watching!

The kids favorite though was Lawn Mower Rides! We towed them around the yard in the John Deere trailer.

Overall the party was a huge success. I’m sure the Mimosas and Bloody Mary’s helped in the adult fun! My sons face was priceless, when we all started singing Happy Birthday. That was the moment he realized this was all for him and made it 100% worth it!!

Now it’s time to chug-a-long… well until the next event atleast.

All Aboard… It’s Party Time!

Tomorrow is my sons 2nd birthday and I can’t believe it’s already here. I’ve spent the past week making easy, train themed decorations for it.

We’re having a small, family party at the house. It’s probably the last year I can get away with not having a big bash. So I’m taking full advantage of it.

Winter birthdays SUCK for party planning! It’s always going to be inside, so you have to get creative with decoration ideas. After all it’s still his birthday and I want him to be WOWED!

This is what I’ve got so far…

I love hanging a banner on the mantle with his name on it.

I made this one out of construction paper.

I literally just eyed something I saw on the Internet and cut out the same shapes.

Then used a glue stick to put it all together.

Once complete, I used some twine and taped each train piece to it.

Finally, attaching it to the mantle with two thumbtacks (one stuck in each side of the twine).

This sign is sitting on the top right of my mantle. It’s a great decoration that we will use again at the party for some photos.

I grabbed some cardboard out of the garage, that was going to be recycled and cut two rectangles with a razor blade.

Once they were the size I wanted, I wrapped the rectangles like a present with white computer paper. I crisscrossed the rectangles and taped them together to make an X.

I then wrote the letters on with a pencil,to make sure I had the correct spacing. In case anything had to be changed I could still erase it.

I took a sharpie marker and went right over the pencil letters making them as thick as I’d like.

I found a wood stake in the garage and taped the sign to it.

Now to secure it in the bucket… I used some leftover styrofoam from his presents packaging. I cut it so it would fit in the container and stuffed it about half way down. Then shoved the wood stake into it, making it nice and secure.

This sign is on the left side of the mantle and will be used for pictures at the party as well.

I repeated the previous steps by cutting out the cardboard in a circle shape.

I then taped four pieces of yellow construction paper together and cut it it into a large circle.

I used a glue stick to attach it to the cardboard.

I cut 4 black strips, out of construction paper and glued it to the yellow paper to cover the seams. Making an X shape.

I drew a 2 on the black paper and cut two of them out. Then glued them to the yellow paper.

I repeated the same steps used for the other sign for attaching it to a wood stake.

I found an old wine bottle laying around, washed off the label and placed the stake inside to secure this sign.

I’m obsessed with these Pom Poms! I must have made a dozen of them. They are super easy to make and it save you some major cash from buying the premade ones. I purchased the tissue paper from the dollar store and followed these instructions. For the same look as the red and blue Pom Pom pictured, I cut the ends into a point instead of rounding them off.

I’ll put them everywhere for some extra color (mantle, table, counters…).

Be sure to check back in for more to come over the next few days!
